The ECTRA Sanctioned Grafton 25

Each fall, provided enough people enter, the Grafton Trail Riders hosts an ECTRA sanctioned 25 mile competitive trail ride, called the Grafton 25.

There are currently no dates or data available for a 2009 ride.

Provided below are the details on 2008's September 6th ride, future competitive rides should be very similar.

Information for The Grafton 25
September 6, 2008

Where: Grafton, NY.  Camping, parking, vetting, on the Grafton Trail Riders Club grounds.  The club grounds are on Rt. 2, in Grafton, NY, by the Grafton Lakes State Park.

Vetting: Friday (September 5) late afternoon (specific time sent with confirmation letter) and early Saturday (September 6) morning.  First riders out at 9:00 am.  Judge Dr. Kent Kay.
Lay Judge: Judy Voll.  No farrier at this ride.

Camping for you and your horse: There is plenty of field camping for your trailer, tent, and temporary horse pen.  Horses may be tied to your trailer (caution: there is not a perimeter fence).  No electrical hookup, no waste water dumping, no individual campfires.  There is a clubhouse with water and electricity.  The bathrooms might be done by the ride, but there is an outhouse!

Motels/Hotels: The Grafton Inn, reservations are a must, is about 1 mile from the club grounds.  This is for you, no horsestalls.

About the trail: Most of the 25 miles are on maintained park trails that wind through the Grafton Lakes State Park and the Pittstown State Forest.  There are some rocky sections, a wooden bridge, and great sections where you can move along.  Pads on your horse at your discretion. 

Awards: Champion, Reserve Champion, 3 ribbons each in 1st through 6th place, completion, breed awards, rookie rider, rookie horse, and some specials!

Food:  Snacks available Friday night.  Microwave and stove available in the clubhouse for your use; bring your own food.  There is a country store a half mile from the grounds that has subs, pizza, soda, snacks, etc.  There is nothing else within a 30 minute drive.
Saturday morning: coffee, tea, juice, fruit, bakery goodies.  Halfway hold: granola bars, fruit, drinks.  After you have vetted out and while the scores are being tallied, a hot meal will be ready in the clubhouse.

Entered but need to cancel? The unpredictable happens, but cancelled entries after August 25 will not be refunded; cancellation prior to August 25 will be refunded.

Minimum of 20 riders needed.  Full refund if the ride cancels due to low entries.
